Press release
Macadam Gallery is proud to announce "Across the Fields," a solo exhibition showcasing the work of French artist Gaël Davrinche, offering a comprehensive look at Davrinche’s artistic journey, from his reinterpretations of classics to his abstract works.
Part of Davrinche’s work reimagines iconic works of great masters in the history of art, adding playful energy and exaggerating elements of their compositions. Engaging with his predecessors while freeing himself from their constraints, he reflects on his place within the broader art world. His study of classics, especially portraiture and still lifes, influences much of his work.

The flower is a central theme in Davrinche’s art, representing both nature and the cycle of life. Initially, his floral paintings are figurative, capturing delicate details with vibrant color and taking inspiration from the iconic style of Dutch still-lifes. However, as his work evolves, his flowers dissolve into fluid shapes and colors, embracing abstraction. He shifts focus from exact representations to the essence of the flower, evoking emotional and sensory experiences. Davrinche’s mastery of painting is evident through his textured canvases and expressive brushstrokes, using the medium’s thickness and fluidity to create organic, bold forms.
